During the biggest event for Chinese pop music, singer-songwriter Sun won the honor for the fifth year, solidifying her position in the mandopop scene.

Hong Kong star Eason Chan was the favorite male singer. David Tao and Joey Yung were named the best male and female singer, respectively.

Although absent, Jay Chou and Jolin Tsai shared in the awards glory. Jay Chou's "Ju Hua Tai" (Chrysanthemum Flower Bed) was in the top 20 favorite songs, and Jolin Tsai's collaboration with David Tao, "Marry Me," won favorite duet.

The night also honored new talents from the Super Girl contest, a singing competition similar to American Idol.

Winners of Super Girl 2005, Li Yuchun, Zhou Bichang and Zhang Liangying, garnered awards for media choice, most versatile artist, and best stage performer, respectively. With their singles also winning honors, the three shared a total of 11 awards.

All winners were determined based on their achievements on the music charts of seven major radio stations, including Beijing Music Radio, Taipei Hit Fm, and Singapore Y.E.S. 933.
