China Endorses and Honors Int'l Environmental Obligations
Adjust font size:

China endorses the Kyoto Protocol and honors international environmental obligations to curb global warming, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao here on Friday.

Wen made the remark at a press conference after the annual session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC) was closed.

"We endorse the Kyoto Protocol and we have formulated plans in light of the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change," said Premier Wen Jiabao.

China, as a developing country, has no obligatory target to meet the Kyoto Protocol, he said. "The Chinese government will adopt a responsible manner to fulfill its words and honor its international obligations," said Wen.

China has set a target to put the emissions of greenhouse gas under control and reduce energy consumption for per unit GDP by 20 percent during the 2006-2010 period, he said.

The international community formulated the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol for developed and developing countries to cope with climate changes.
