Wang Xinyu of China was eliminated by British player Emma Raducanu 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the women's singles first round of the French Open on Monday.

After the 2021 US Open champion Raducanu fought hard to win the first set 7-5, Wang bounced back to take a comfortable 5-1 lead and claim a 6-4 victory despite a late surge of Raducanu in the second set.

Then, the 22-year-old Raducanu controlled the pace to seal the win in the final set 6-3, who will face the fifth-seeded Iga Swiatek of Poland in the second round.

At Roland Garros, Wang, 23, once triumphed in the women's doubles of French Open in 2023 and pocketed a silver in the mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

As both China's Wang and Yuan Yue failed to reach the second round, Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen now becomes the only Chinese player still in the French Open women's singles draw.
