Beijing is projected to certify over 100 new performance spaces citywide by the end of this year, as revealed during a press conference on policies supporting the high-quality development of performing arts and esports held on June 19.
In recent years, Beijing has been actively promoting the in-depth integration of urban cultural spaces and performing arts resources, fostering a series of innovative "theater+" consumption experience scenarios.
In terms of spatial planning of the new performance spaces, Beijing has actively revitalized traditional theaters, repurposed heritage buildings, rejuvenated industrial parks and commercial districts, and created distinctive cultural landmarks.
The spaces are distinguished with "compact yet refined, innovative yet dynamic" features. While maintaining professional standards, they drive cross-sector integration and innovation.
Next, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism will leverage policy support and guidance, strengthen municipal-district coordination, and explore performance content, venue typology, operational models, and cross-sector innovation of the performance spaces.
