On June 24, a new landmark for green development was unveiled at the Wutong Mountain Scenic Area in Donghu sub-district, Luohu district — the "Green and Beautiful Luohu Zero-Waste Scenic Service Station." Designed to promote sustainable tourism, the station combines immersive environmental education with intelligent services, offering a comprehensive platform for public learning, hands-on participation, and visitor support.
Located at the mountain's busy northern entrance, the hub capitalizes on the area's natural advantages and high visitor volume. Guided by Donghu and aligned with Luohu’s goal of becoming a pioneer in low-carbon development, the site adopts a four-in-one model: a resource recycling and culture-tourism interaction point, a waste-sorting education site, an ecological tourism service station, and a public participation hub for co-building a zero-waste scenic area.
The initiative marks a key step forward in Donghu's efforts to integrate waste sorting, resource recovery, and ecological tourism — offering a replicable model for sustainable scenic area management.
A market-driven approach has also been introduced. Visitors can exchange used plastic bottles at the "Green Swap" window for creative RPET (recycled PET) souvenirs sponsored by local businesses. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, volunteers provide services such as bottle redemption, drinking water, phone charging, and tourist information.
"This station makes travel more meaningful — it's both educational and hands-on," said one visitor.
