How Can I Travel to China If I Don't Have a Passport?
Adjust font size:

Hi,

I'm interested in traveling to China, but I do not hold a passport. I was born in Hong Kong and moved to United States when I was 12. I am not a US citizen but I do have a Permanent Resident Card, and a driver's license. In the article in your website, it mentioned "a valid passport or other certificate(s) that can be used in place of a passport." Can you elaborate what other certificates will be accepted??

Thank you.

Jim

Dear Jim:

According to the notice on the website of Embassy of the Peoples' Republic of China in the United States of America, compatriots from Hong Kong or Macao coming to the mainland should hold a valid Home Return Permit (huixiangzheng, -- the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents), those who don't have a Home Return Permit and need to enter the mainland through a foreign country can apply a "Travel Certificate of the People's Republic of China" to visit China in place of passport.

You need to fill an application form, and provide a copy of your "green card" and three photos as well as a certification that can prove your HK identity. You may confirm further requirements to local China consulate-general in US:
