More than 100 traditional Chinese paintings of Indian people, landscapes, life and culture by Chinese artists are on exhibit at Gehua Museum of Art in Beijing.

The "India-China Friendship Painting Exhibition" is part of the ongoing Festival of India in China 2010, a celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and India.

"The two countries have been interacting culturally for more than 2,000 years," said S. Jaishankar, the Indian ambassador to China. "It is encouraging that eminent artists in China have taken the initiative to express their sentiments about our relationship through their preferred forms of art."

"I am confident their exhibition will be warmly received and contribute to better understanding between the peoples of India and China," Jaishankar said.

The exhibition was organized by the Indian Embassy, Beijing and sponsored by the China Culture Academy for Painting and Calligraphy and Beijing Creative Industry Development Foundation. The Chinese Academy of Arts and the Chinese Academy for Oil Painting offer academic resources for the exhibit.

The exhibition will run until Aug. 30.
