Wang Anyi (王安憶), born in Nanjing in 1954, is a Chinese writer who also was a farm laborer during the Cultural Revolution. She is also a cellist and magazine editor.

In 1980 she received professional training from the literary institute of the Chinese Writers Association. In 1983 she attended the International Writing Program of the University of Iowa. In 1987, she was hired as one of professional writers of the Shanghai Writers Association. In 2004, she accepted an appointment as professor of Chinese literature at Fudan University.

She started publishing in 1977. Her work includes the novels "The Everlasting Regret," "Scent of Heaven," "Bao Town," "Stories of Our Uncle," "Marriage of the Fairies" and essays, screenplays and prose works totaling more than 6 million words. She has won the China National Short Story Prize, the Mao Dun Literature Prize, the Lu Xun Literary Prize, the Flower Trace Literature Prize and the Dream of the Red Chamber Award. Her works have been translated into English, German, Dutch, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew, Korean, Vietnamese and Thai.
