Jet makes emergency landing after engine catches fire
Adjust font size:

A passenger flight of Hong Kong-based Dragon Air made an emergency landing at China's Capital International Airport after one of its engines caught fire yesterday.

No casualties were reported, Beijing News reported today.

The KA991 flight to Hong Kong returned to the tarmac after one of its engines failed after takeoff at 1:30 pm.

The crew asked passengers to use oxygen masks and took safety measures before its emergency landing half an hour after taking off from the airport's Terminal 3.

Firefighters said no flames were detected onboard.

A blaze was reported to break out at the left wing of the Airbus 330 plane, which was fully loaded with 300 passengers, according to a well-informed source.

Most of the passengers were sent to a hotel at the airport; some were reported to be suffering from shock.

"There was minimal damage," a Dragon Air staff member said.
