Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Saturday visited four renowned elderly scientists, and expressed his sincere gratitude to them for their enormous contributions to developing the country's science programs.

Among the scientists visited were 96-year-old nuclear physicist He Zehui, wife of the late nuclear scientist Qian Sanqiang, the "Father of China's Atomic Bomb", 91-year-old mathematician Wu Wenjun, 86-year-old nuclear physicist Zhu Guangya, and 95-year-old optical physicist Wang Daheng.

Wen told He Zehui, whom he has been in contact with since the early 1990s, "I am very pleased to see you are still in good health. You have made significant contributions to the country, and the people will always remember you," Wen said.

It has become a tradition each year since Wen became Premier to visit elderly scientists who greatly contributed to the country.
