The discipline watchdog of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday pledged to push the party's nationwide anti-corruption efforts harder in government-led construction projects in 2011.

He Yong, deputy secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said at a meeting in Beijing that the commission would focus its supervision on projects in land use, transport, railways and water conservation.

The watchdog would also strengthen its supervision of governmental investment and relevant construction projects, especially procedures of public bidding, construction management and quality control, He said.

In the past year the CPC had carried on a special campaign to deal with corruptions in government-led construction projects. Last week, the CCDI removed Liu Zhijun, former minister of railways, from his post as the ministry's Communist Party chief.

Liu, who had headed China's railway system for nearly eight years, was being investigated for alleged severe violations of discipline, according to the CCDI.

Figures from the CCDI showed that 146,517 officials in the country were punished for disciplinary violations in 2010.
