Residents of Chongqing have expressed support for the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's decision to investigate the recently-fired Party chief of the southwestern municipality.

On Tuesday, the CPC Central Committee announced a decision to investigate Bo Xilai for serious violations of discipline, and the police authorities announced the reinvestigation of Neil Heywood's death and transferred suspects to judicial organs.

Zhang Dejiang, the current Party chief of Chongqing, stressed at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Tuesday they will firmly support the decision of the CPC Central Committee.

The municipal authorities will spare no effort to maintain social stability in Chongqing, according to Zhang.

All members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee have reached the agreement that the CPC Central Committee's decision fully displays the respect for fact and rule of law.

The cadres and masses in Chongqing said they have observed the CPC Central Committee's determination to safeguard Party discipline and the country's laws.

"I will resolutely support the CPC Central Committee's decision," said Xia Yang, chief procurator with the People's Procuratorate of Yuzhong district in Chongqing.

There is no privileged citizen before the law. No one can interfere with law enforcement and anyone who violates the law can not be at large. The leading cadres of the CPC should set an example to obey the law and accept supervision consciously, Xia said.

Some cadres said the case serves as a warning for the CPC members and cadres to guard against corruption.

He Bin, a cadre with the publicity department of the Yongchuan district, said the CPC Central Committee's decision has encouraged people to devote themselves to their duties.

College teachers and students have spoken highly of the efficient and timely release of the CPC Central Committee's decision.

Liu Weidong, a teacher at Chongqing Normal University, said the news being published in a transparent way reflects the CPC's highly responsible attitude toward the people.

Wang Shaojin, a grassroots CPC cadre from Zhoubai township of Qianjiang district, said he is confident about Chongqing's future and will work hard to contribute to the development of the city.
