China Matters' Feature: A Mission of Powering Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a nation grappling with inadequate power supply, experiencing electricity shortages even in its capital, Tashkent. As the foundation of all industrial development, electric power was naturally one of the first sectors to welcome foreign investment into the country.

Along with the organizations from France, Qatar, and Japan, as well as the World Bank, the Harbin Electric Corporation from China is assisting the country constructing the most advanced power plant in its history.

In this video, we follow Lin Shiyao, a manager and key coordinator from China responsible for overseeing the entire project, from conception to full commercial operation. On-site, Lin leads the construction work, acting as a mediator between owners and sponsors, and facilitating the exchange of ideas among the different parties involved. The manager from China's northeastern Heilongjiang is also a bridge between various cultures.

The challenges are considerable for Lin Shiyao. As the father of a three-year-old son back in China, Lin has spent the majority of the past two years working tirelessly in Uzbekistan. Despite being far from his home country, he remains motivated by the idea of providing cleaner, more efficient, and more stable energy for the local area.
