U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday visited a high school in Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province, expressing expectation of future progress by Chinese youth.

During a speech, she firstly conveyed the presidential couple's sympathy to the families of the passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Through her ongoing visit to China, she has been surprised to find that the two peoples of China and the United States have much in common, said Obama, noting that some misunderstanding and prejudice is inevitable as the two countries are far apart.

She said that after visiting China's ancient wonders and modern achievements during the tour, and getting along with young Chinese students, she is confident of the two countries' future and eager to see the progress made by Chinese youth in the future.

Obama also interacted online with students from another school when attending a net long-distance class.

Chengdu is the last leg of the first lady's China visit, with her previously having visited Beijing and Xi'an, an ancient capital in northwest Shaanxi Province.

She started the seven-day China visit last Thursday afternoon, at the invitation of Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and will conclude it on Wednesday. Endi
