URUMQI, China, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Taklimakan Rally continued Friday with the third special stage (SS3), where a dense stretch of deep pits along the 335-kilometer course pushed competitors to carefully balance speed and caution.

Set in the demanding landscape of Keping County, Xinjiang, the stage featured a variety of challenging terrain, including water crossings, high-speed gravel flats, and hazardous riverbeds.

Early leader Martin Michek of the Chongqing Hoto Factory Team crashed mid-stage, disrupting his rhythm and shaking up the title race in the motorcycle category. His teammate, emerging talent Fang Xiangliang, and Lithuanian rider Arunas Gelazninkas delivered steady performances, further intensifying the intra-squad competition.

Zakir Yhep, a veteran from the Wubao Dahuangdao Racing Team, seized the moment to make up lost ground.

"Yesterday, equipment issues cost me some time, but today I was back in form. And I finally regained my rhythm," said the Uygur rider.

20-year-old female driver Aliyyah Koloc has drawn significant attention during the rally. Although she faced mechanical issues early in the stage, timely adjustments by her team enabled her to finish safely.

"I especially enjoyed the high-speed sections, it was a fulfilling and enjoyable day," said the Seychellois. "As a first-time participant in the rally, I know I'm still in the learning phase, and every step helps build my confidence and experience for the long journey ahead."

The rally continues Saturday with Stage 4, a 246-kilometer special stage. After the day's racing, the rally camp will move to Luopu County, Hotan Prefecture. Enditem
