URUMQI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Dust clouds dominated the fourth special stage (SS4) of the Taklimakan Rally on Saturday, as experienced competitors navigated treacherous terrain to finish strong while others lost their way.

The 246-kilometer route unfolded along a high-speed course cut through a dried riverbed, where deep cuts and sudden drops made for a dangerous and demanding run.

In the motorcycle category, several riders lost their bearings and failed to locate key waypoints. Zakir Yhep, however, drew on his extensive navigation experience to stay on course. Starting third, he powered through the stage to finish second.

"I'm very satisfied with my performance today - no mistakes at all," said the 37-year-old. "As long as my motorcycle remains in good shape, I'm confident. This year, the goal is the title."

Tao Yongming, driving for Hebei Qian'an Jiujiang Auto and Motorcycle Sports Club, battled through a sudden sandstorm that cut visibility to less than 20 meters. Navigating the chaos with seasoned precision, he was the first to finish in the car division.

"We've been in the top group for all four stages so far," said Tao. "I'll keep this rhythm going and aim for even better results."

Sunday marks the rally's first rest day. Racing resumes Monday with the 282-kilometer SS5 - canceled last year due to extreme weather and now set for its long-awaited debut. Enditem
