Shanghai metro acts to cool off passengers
Adjust font size:

Shanghai's metro operator is upgrading the cooling system on Line 1 subways in response to passenger complaints that the trains are too hot and uncomfortable, Youth Daily reported today.

Some of the upgraded trains will be ready by September.

Metro Line 1 trains are of the oldest in the city. Due to outdated air-conditioning equipment and the rising number of metro passengers, many commuters are complaining about stuffy carriages during the hot, humid summer, the report said.

The Metro operator has taken creative steps, including placing blocks of ice in train cars, to keep passengers cool, the report said.

Some trains were shipped last week to Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co in Hunan Province, where the upgrades to the air conditioning systems will be made.
