100-odd houses buried by landslide in Yunnan
Adjust font size:

Continuous rainstorms triggered a landslide in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Tuesday morning, leaving one person missing and more than 100 villagers' houses buried in mud and rocks.

Heavy rainstorms had slammed Panhe Town in Zhaotong City between 8:00 p.m. Monday and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, triggering the landslide.

On Monday night, local residents were evacuated but some villagers' properties were washed away by mountain torrents.

Dahua village was worst stricken, where more than 100 houses were buried.

According to the town government's statistics by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, 21,074 people of nine villages were affected and 5,276 houses were flooded. Telecommunications and electricity facilities were seriously damaged.

Rescue efforts are underway.
