Cabbies in Sanya rally demanding gov't action, strike in 4th day

Some taxis resume service in Sanya.

The taxi strike in the southern Chinese city of Sanya entered its fourth day on Thursday, as more than 100 drivers rallied at a plaza and demanded a detailed government plan to tackle their complaints.

The cabbies had gathered at the city government building during the past three days.

Some cabs were seen operating, as some drivers said they could not stand the daily loss of about 300 yuan (44 U.S. dollars) involved with rental fees during the strike.

The drivers are demanding government intervention on several issues, such as high monthly rental fees and competition from unlicensed cabs.
