Typhoon Jangmi expected to land in E. China
Adjust font size:

Super strong typhoon Jangmi is expected to hit land in east China's Fujian Province on Monday evening or night and could "severely" affect the province, said the Fujian meteorological center on Saturday.

Before its landfall in Fujian, Jangmi will hit land in Taiwan between Sunday evening and Monday morning, the center said.

The typhoon, packing wind of 216 km per hour in its center, was about 1,000 km southeast of Xiamen, Fujian, at 8 a.m. Saturday. It was moving northwestward at a speed of 20 km per hour.

Fujian issued warnings for high winds and heavy rain.

Earlier this week, Hagupit, the 14th strong typhoon this year, landed in Maoming, Guangdong on Wednesday morning. It killed 17 people in the southern city of Yangjiang alone.

Hagupit left China on Thursday morning and moved into Vietnam, downgrading to a severe tropical storm as it did so. Landslides and flooding caused by Hagupit has claimed 26 lives in Vietnam.
