Press conference on COVID-19 prevention and regulation measures for farmers markets

The State Council Information Office held a press conference on July 3 to brief the media on COVID-19 prevention and regulation measures for farmers markets.

ITAR-TASS:

Some American media outlets reported that the WHO, on June 30, had updated the timeline of its response to COVID-19, retracting its earlier statement that the Chinese government had warned it of the outbreak. It shows that WHO has finally acknowledged the truth to the world that China didn't report the outbreak to the WHO at all. What is your comment on that? What is the status of China's cooperation with the WHO? Thank you.

Hu Qiangqiang:

Let me answer this question. What you mentioned in regard to those media reports is completely untrue.

After the outbreak, China has always been acting with openness, transparency and a high sense of responsibility for global health and safety. We lost no time to inform the WHO, relevant national and regional organizations, and China's Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions, about the epidemic in a timely and active manner, and shared the whole gene sequence, primers and probes of the coronavirus. China has also been regularly informing the WHO and relevant countries about the epidemic.

I have at hand a copy of the white paper entitled "Fighting COVID-19: China in Action" published by the State Council Information Office last month, which contains a full record of China's efforts in its fight against the virus, shares its experiences with the rest of the world, and make clear its ideas and stance on the global battle against COVID-19. I will ask my colleagues to give you an English version of the white paper after the press conference. Thank you.
