Stop interfering in China’s internal affairs

By Zhong Sheng

On July 13 US State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said at a press conference that the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) had previously given funds to the World Uygur Congress (WUC). The NED derives most of its funds from the US Congress.

The WUC was behind the July 5 Urumqi riots involving vandalism, looting, arson, assault and murder. It was because of the support from western countries and various funding organizations that the WUC was able to hold such separatist activities so audaciously.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the Uyghur American Association can get US$215,000 each year from the NED. Some anti-China congressmen also invited Rebiya Kadeer to speak at the congressional human rights hearing to try to tarnish the image of China.

The US NED claims to be a non-partisan and non-governmental institution, but actually it obtains most of its funds from the US Congress. Since it was established in the early 1980s, the NED has used its non-governmental identity as a screen to conduct sordid business all around the world. It was involved in the subversive activities of Ukraine, Venezuela, Iran and Burma.

The WUC places its headquarter in Munich, Germany. Erkin Alptekin, Xinjiang separatist and WUC president, was supported by the U.S. and Germany. A German Web site revealed that the U.S. and Germany have long supported the anti-China Xinjiang separatists in order to curb China’s development.

The WUC is engaging in activities which have seriously jeopardized China’s security under the shield and connivance of the western countries that fund them. So China is justified in asking those countries to stop giving funds and support to the “three forces” (separatism, terrorism, and extremis), which include the “East Turkistan” terrorists. China is also justified in asking countries to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.
