Jose Carreras to hold concert in Beijing
Adjust font size:

Spanish tenor Jose Carreras will hold a solo concert at the National Center for the Performing arts of China, formerly known as the National Grand Theater, in Beijing on Jan. 18, 2008.

This is the fourth trip by 61-year-old tenor to China and he will sing 17 songs and opera episodes accompanied by the symphony orchestra of The National Ballet of China.

"Hong Kong soprano Bao-ching Yeh will join me in singing a duet episode of the Merry Widow, Franz Lehar's highly acclaimed operetta," said Carreras ln his media briefing on Tuesday.

Carreras will also sing "In a Faraway Fairyland", a folk love song by Chinese musician Wang Luobin. He once sang the song for the Chinese audience during his 2005's concert in Beijing.

The tenor's China trips kicked off in 2001 when he joined Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti for a knock-out concert at the Palace Museum, known as Forbidden City. He marked his latest tour by performing at the closing ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai.

This is the second time NCPA hosts foreign classic performers since its opening on 23rd of last month, the first being the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
