Electronic Products Fair to Be Held in US

China plans to show off its consumer electronic products at an exhibition fair in the United States in hopes of boosting exports of such goods.

The other hope is that the US fair will help Chinese enterprises enhance their reputation and competitiveness now that China is a member of the World Trade Organization.

Officials from the electronics & information industry sub-council affiliated with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, which is sponsoring the promotional activity, said it will be a part of the Las Vegas International Consuming Electronics Products Exhibition. It will be held January 8-11.

A January 9 news conference at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel will highlight China's high-tech consumer electronics products.

Many related Chinese leading enterprises, including Konka, Changhong, TCL, Haier, Hisense, Panda and Creative, as well as some small- and medium-sized consumer electronics manufacturers, will display their wares at the international exhibition.

The products will include super-clarity color TVs, laser DVDs, digital household cinemas, computers and mobile phones.

China is the world's largest exporter of televisions, tape recorders, telephones and batteries.

Official statistics indicate that China's average annual growth rate for consumer electronic products reached 20 per cent in the past decade.

Specifically, the export volume of consumer electronic products surged from US$10 million in 1980 to US$90 billion in 2000.
