Illegal Games Hit List Released

A hit list of 50 illegal electronic games has been published by the General Administration of Press and Publication and anti-porn and illegal publication offices.

It forms part of nationwide efforts to defend intellectual property rights in the electronic publication and software markets and protect young people.

Liu Binjie, deputy director of the administration and director of the State Anti-porn Office said in Beijing on Wednesday that the government will intensify its fight against illegal publications this year.

This will especially include pirated textbooks, electronic publications and illegal journals that are considered to have a negative influence on young people.

Among the 50 illegal games, 26 are pirated games including Age of Mythology: the Titans, The Sims 2, Manhunt, FIFA 2005, Battlefield Vietnam and Painkiller: Battle out of Hell. The rest are illegally distributed foreign games including Conflict Vietnam, Vietcong: Fist Alpha and Devastation.

The administration has called for departments across the country to clean up the electronic publication and software markets by targeting confiscation of the 50 listed titles and hold the publishers, producers and distributors accountable.

The government launched its ongoing campaign against pornographic and illegal publications in 1989.
