Six people were killed and over a dozen injured in a 20-vehicle pile-up Wednesday morning on a foggy freeway in east China's Anhui Province, said an official with the provincial communication department.
The accident caused a 10-kilometer-long traffic jam at the Wuyu section of the Hefei-Xuzhou highway. Traffic flow had returned to normal by noon Wednesday.
On the same highway last week, five people died and many others were injured in two pile-ups during heavy fog.
In southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, the death toll from Monday's traffic accident rose to 10 while 21 others remain in the hospital, according to a local source.
The accident took place at 3:30 PM Monday, when a truck carrying 33 people, including three drivers, overturned in Gongbo'gyamda County of the Linzhi Prefecture.
Six people died at the scene and four others had died in the local hospital as of Wednesday morning.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the accident may have been caused by a combination of speeding, overloading and vehicle malfunction.
The driver of the truck has been detained and the local government is working to confirm identities of victims and ensure compensation.
