Sino-US Military Exchanges Maintain Momentum

Chinese and US senior military leaders vowed Tuesday in Beijing to further promote bilateral inter-military relationships.

Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission (CMC), held a meeting with Admiral William J. Fallon, commander of US Pacific Command.

During the meeting, Guo said that with concerted efforts, relations between the two armed forces have maintained good momentum.

"China and the US should increase dialogue and expand cooperation to further promote relations between the two countries and the two armed forces," he said.

Guo also expounded on China's stance over the Taiwan issue. Fallon said the US values the friendly cooperation it has with the Chinese army, and hopes that the two sides would further expand cooperation for mutual benefit.

Liang Guanglie, CMC member and chief of the PLA's General Staff, also met with Fallon.

Liang said that the two sides should deal with the relationship from a strategic and long-term viewpoint, expand consensus, reduce differences, and solve problems in order to push forward a healthy and stable bilateral relationship.

Fallon said that the US has not changed its stance over the Taiwan issue and noted that it adheres to the one-China policy and hopes for a peaceful resolution of the Taiwan issue.
