China, Thailand Agree to Boost Trade

China and Thailand are pledging to boost economic and trade cooperation. Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and Thai Deputy Premier Somkid Jatusripitak signed an agreement in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai, to expand bilateral tourism, investment and trade.

Addressing the "Second Meeting of the Thailand-China Joint Committee on Trade", Wu Yi spoke highly of the gains made in trade between the two countries. She also noted progress in areas that included tourism. Wu Yi voiced hope that the two sides can reinforce their cooperation in large joint projects.

For his part, Somkid Jatusripitak said he hoped the meeting would enhance understanding and friendly relations between the two sides, and also lay a solid foundation for future economic and trade cooperation.

Somkid said Thailand welcomes Chinese enterprises to explore local opportunities in the energy, auto and logistics sectors. He added the Thai government encourages cooperation with the Chinese side.

Earlier on Thursday, Wu Yi addressed the "Sino-Thai Economic and Investment Partnership Seminar". Wu said China's economic development can help push prosperity in Asia and the world, instead of threaten other countries. She said China's currency reforms are necessary for development, and can promote the stability of Asian regions and the world economy.

Representatives from 20 Chinese enterprises and more than 60 Thai businessmen attended the seminar.
