Cell Phone Export Rises 80% in S. China Port
Adjust font size:

Shenzhen, a major trade port in south China's Guangdong Province, exported 36.99 million mobile phones, or US$2.67 billion worth, in 2005, a year-on-year growth of 84.7 percent and 37.4 percent respectively.

As world's biggest cell phone producer, China saw fast increases in export of such goods over the past few years. However, experts warned, cell phone export is exposing to such risks as high concentration on a handful of target markets and down selling.

According to local customs sources, Shenzhen sold 75.9 percent of its total cell phone exports to the United States and Hong Kong SAR--14.76 million to the former and 13.33 million to the latter, up 35 percent and 230 percent respectively.

Price of cell phone exports dropped substantially last year. Local Customs sources said Shenzhen sold mobile phones for US$72.3 per unit, down 25.6 percent from the previous year.
