China's price of coke for export gains recovering momentum recently, as the free on board price has risen from US$110 per ton early this year to around US$170 per ton in June, reported Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily on Tuesday.
Liu Zhiyang, an official with the Chamber of Metals Minerals Importers and Exporters attributed the price hike to the temporary short supply of coke as a result of strained railway transportation in the country.
From May to June, he said, the railway departments focused efforts on shipping coal from Shanxi, the nation's largest coal producer, in order to ensure coal supply for power stations.
He predicted that the coke export price will fall slightly at the end of July and in early August as the railway transportation departments may increase coke shipping capacity.
