One Third of Urban Families Intend to Buy Cars

Three out of ten Chinese urban families intend to buy cars in the next five years, according to a latest sample survey conducted by the Association of Chinese Customers.

The survey randomly selected 10,000 families as samples of 20 major Chinese cities, involving Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing. About 2,000 of the families surveyed own a car, according to the Business Daily.

The survey found that 32 percent of urban families have the intention to buy cars.

It also found that although most families do not own cars, 30.6 percent of citizens in the 20 cities possess driving licenses.

Among the respondents, 3.2 percent plan to buy cars this year, 11.1 percent to buy cars in 2001, 15.6 percent in 2002 and 70 percent during 2003-05.
