Sugong Minaret in Turpan of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
Sugong (Mr. Su) Minaret stands in the southeastern suburbs about three kilometres away from the county town of Turpan.

The minaret was built neither as a burial ground nor a place for calling people to prayer, but as a memorial.

It was built during Emperor Qianlong's reign (in the mid-eighteenth century) of the Qing Dynasty by the chief of Turpan Prefecture for his father.

The minaret, forty-four metres high. The exterior of the minaret is built of square yellow bricks with ornamental designs, giving it a splendid look. A winding staircase leads to the top, where people can look out of holes in the walls.
