Anping Bridge-end Pagoda in Jinjiang of Fujian Province
Anping Bridge in Anhai of Jinjiang, also called Wuli Bridge, is the longest ancient bridge in China and used to be called the longest bridge under Heaven. Built in 1138 during the Southern Song Dynasty, the bridge originally had four square and two round stone pagodas standing symmetrically on each side of the bridge. As the Anping Bridge-End Pagoda was painted white, it was also called the White Pagoda. It must have been built in the Song Dynasty, at the same time as the bridge. Built of brick, the hexagonal, five-storeyed pagoda is about twenty-two meters high and can be seen far away. It not only clearly indicates the entrance to the bridge but adds beauty to the bridge.
