The 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics

Beijing successfully hosted two sports events in the summer of 2008: the 29th Olympic Games from August 8 to 24, and the 13th Paralympics from September 6 to 17.

A total of 11,438 athletes from 204 countries and regions participated in the summer games, competing in 302 events from 28 sports. They created 43 world records and renewed 132 Olympic records, and 87 countries and regions won medals. The number of participants, including athletes, coaches and officials, exceeded 60,000.

The Paralympics held 21 events in 20 sports, attracting 3,968 competitors from 147 countries and regions. They broke 279 world records and 339 Paralympic records.

These two games would not have been possible without China's rapidly growing composite national strength, strength of socialist system, concerted efforts of the whole nation, and support of other countries and peoples.

Through these two games, the Chinese nation realized a dream of hosting the Olympic Games and honored their promise to the world of presenting two games of equal splendor, thus further contributing to human civilization and progress. The sports events promoted the Olympic spirit of solidarity, friendship and peace, and enhanced mutual understanding and friendship among different peoples under the slogan "one world, one dream."

2008年北京夏奧會(huì)、殘奧會(huì)

2008年8月8日至24日、9月6日至17日，北京成功舉辦第二十九屆夏季奧運(yùn)會(huì)、第十三屆殘奧會(huì)。

2008年北京夏奧會(huì)共有參賽國(guó)家及地區(qū)204個(gè)，參賽運(yùn)動(dòng)員11438人，設(shè)28個(gè)大項(xiàng)、302小項(xiàng)；共有60000多名運(yùn)動(dòng)員、教練員和官員參加；共創(chuàng)造43項(xiàng)新世界紀(jì)錄及132項(xiàng)新奧運(yùn)紀(jì)錄，共有87個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)在賽事中取得獎(jiǎng)牌。

2008年北京殘奧會(huì)設(shè)20個(gè)大項(xiàng)、21個(gè)分項(xiàng)賽事，共有參賽國(guó)家和地區(qū)147個(gè)，參賽運(yùn)動(dòng)員3968人；共打破279項(xiàng)殘疾人世界紀(jì)錄及339項(xiàng)殘奧會(huì)紀(jì)錄。
