Fans Remember Leslie Cheung

For the Chinese-speaking entertainment world, the past 12 months were marked by several tragic events. The unfortunate year was ushered in by the untimely death of Leslie Cheung. This Thursday, friends and fans of the star, best known for his role in the film Farewell my Concubine, marked the heartbreaking anniversary.

On the first anniversary of Leslie Cheung's suicide, fans across the world remembered the legendary entertainer.

In Hong Kong, the hotel from which Leslie jumped to his death is a major venue for mourners. Fans have been sending wreaths for days. In a local wax museum, a life-size likeness of the pop icon is the newest exhibit.

In Taiwan, Leslie's fans gathered to mark the tragic date at an event called "Love Letters and High Heels". A much-loved singer leaning towards the over-romantic, love letters and high heels were familiar motifs in his songs.

After his death, Leslie lives on not only in the hearts and minds of all those who loved him, but also in his films and music, now considered Hong Kong classics.
