2006: the Warmest Year Since 1951
Adjust font size:

According to the State Administration of Meteorology, 2006 was the warmest year in China since 1951, with an average temperature of 9.92 degrees centigrade.

North China Plain, east part of Inner Mongolia and southeast China have become increasingly warmer in the last 50 years. In 2006, 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities located between the Yellow River and Nanling Mountains chalked up new temperature records since 1951.

“The most dangerous sign is that even the temperature in Tibet hit a new high in 2006, as is suggested by the record of 13 of all the 39 weather observation stations on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,” said a researcher from the National Climate Center.

Actually, China has witnessed 19 warm winters since 1986, and it is getting warmer and warmer every year.

However, it still can not be told that whether this winter is another “warm” one or not, despite the fact that it has been warm since last December.
