Two Kenyans captured by the Iraqi army and subsequently rescued by British troops have been handed over to the Kenyan authorities, a statement from the Kenyan Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The two Kenyan drivers, David Mukuria and Jacob Kamau, were formally handed over by British officials to the Kenyan embassy in Saudi Arabia Friday afternoon, the statement said.
The Kenyan drivers working for a Saudi-based company were captured by the Iraqi army when they were allegedly driving humanitarian aid into Iraq soon after the US-led war on the Gulf country broke out. They were later shown on Qatar's Al-Jazeera TV with other prisoners of war.
Photos of the two captives taken from Al-Jazeera have appeared on the front pages of most leading newspapers in Kenya recently, causing great concern in the east African country.
They were rescued by the British troops on March 31 in Southern Iraq.
