South Korea, US Hold Second Consultation

Delegations of South Korea and the US to the fourth round of six-party talks held a 60-minute consultation Tuesday morning to exchange views and coordinate their stances in the ongoing talks.

The bilateral meeting was held after the heads of the six delegations conferred early Tuesday morning. At the one-hour discussions, the two sides appraised the heads' meeting and exchanged views on to which direction the future talks will advance, an official with the South Korean delegation revealed on condition of anonymity.

He said that the South Korean and US delegations reached new consensus on how to make the current round of six-way talks to achieve a substantive result. But he rejected to reveal any concrete contents of the bilateral consultations.

The South Korean official said that the six delegations will hold various bilateral and multilateral negotiations to coordinate their stances and push forward the six-nation talks.

Song Min-soon, head of the South Korean delegation and deputy foreign minister, said at the opening session of the fourth round of six-party talks that South Korea will provide 2 million kwh of electricity for North Korea if it abandons its nuclear programs.

The South Korean and US delegations held a bilateral meeting on Monday morning before the six-party talks reopened.
