Journalists Urged to Promote National Progress

Chinese journalists should exert more efforts to promote economic and social progress in the course of implementing the scientific view of development, a senior official said Tuesday to mark China's Journalist Day which falls on Nov. 8.

Journalists should work in their own way to help activate the vitality of the Chinese society and maintain social stability through publicizing the ongoing process of building a harmonious society, said Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee.

Governments at various levels should help create better conditions for the journalists to work, live and study, he said.

According to Li, it's also important for journalists to raise the public understanding of the fifth plenum of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which was held last month.
