WHO announces end of Ebola outbreak in Uganda
Adjust font size:

A recent outbreak of Ebola fever in Uganda's western Bundibugyo region has officially come to an end, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday.

"The last person to be infected by the virus was discharged on Jan. 8, 2008. This is more than double the maximum incubation period (42 days) for Ebola," the UN agency said in a statement.

According to the statement, a national task force comprising the Ministry of Health of Uganda, WHO and other international partners coordinated the response to this outbreak.

A cumulative total of 77 patients were treated in two isolation facilities set up in the country.
