She said the fair is a major window for China to open up to the outside world in the field of high technology, and the Chinese government hopes it serves as a platform to boost exchange in hi-tech area with other countries.

China is exerting great efforts to built itself into a resource- and energy-efficient, environment-friendly, and innovative country, Wu said.

She said that China has attached great importance to protecting intellectual rights with the aim of creating a favorable environment for both domestic and foreign hi-tech companies.

Wu announced the opening of the Eighth China High-tech Fair in Shenzhen on Thursday.

According to organizers, the fair's main themes are "self-reliant innovation, recycled economy, and protection of intellectual rights."

Over 160 overseas companies from more than 30 foreign countries and regions as well as five international stock exchanges have sent delegations to the fair.
