FM: Iraq's Destiny Should Be Controlled by Iraqi People

Iraq's destiny should be controlled by its own people, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Wednesday in separate telephone conversations with French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier and Javier Solana, secretary general of the Council of the European Union (EU) and representative for the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.

They exchanged views mainly on the new draft resolution on the Iraqi issue being discussed in the United Nations Security Council.

Li stressed the temporary administration of Iraq should posses full sovereignty in such fields as politics, economy, resources, security, justice and foreign affairs, and Iraq should enact new constitution as soon as possible and establish a new highly-representative government through democratic and fair election.

Li said the United Nations should play a role in Iraq's politics and during the process of Iraq's reconstruction.

They reached a consensus that China and EU as well as China and France should strengthen coordination and cooperation, and the United Nations should make efforts to help Iraq realize peace and stability.
