Canada Expects Hydrogen Energy Cooperation with China

A Canadian delegation composed of 14 clean energy firms voiced its willingness Friday to enhance cooperation with Chinese counterparts in hydrogen energy.

The delegation, headed by Michael Raymont, acting president of National Research Council of Canada (NRC), is in Beijing to attend an international forum on developing hydrogen energy.

Raymont told a press conference that his tour is to promote cooperation with China in fuel cell and other alternative fuel, and to promote technology transfer of alternative fuel so as to assist China's sustained development.

"Hyforum 2004" will be held in Beijing from May 25 to 28, which will be accompanied by an exhibition showing the latest technologies applying hydrogen energy.

Canadian Ambassador to China Joseph Caron said Canada and China have conducted lots of cooperation in environment and energy and have forged solid partnership in this regard.

The forum, supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Association for Science and Technology and the International Association for Hydrogen Energy, will be attended by governmental department officials, scientists, investors and business people.

The United States, Japan and European Union members have already attached great importance to developing technologies using hydrogen energy. Chinese scientists have also showed great interest in the research on such technologies, particularly fuel cell technology.
