Ukraine's Yerofeyeva Reaps 4 Titles in Rhythmic Gymnastics

Ukraine's Tamara Yerofeyeva became the biggest winner in rhythmic gymnastics by sweeping four out five individual gold medals at the 21st World University Games here on Friday.

Yerofeyeva, who claimed all-around victory for the first time in an international event last night, kept her winning form by wrapping up titles in hoop, rope and ball on the last day of the rhythmic gymnastics competition.

The 20-year-old earned 28.450 points for hoop, 27.483 in rope and 27.883 in ball on Friday.

Yerofeyeva, a slim and pretty girl in shining white, said: "This is the first time for me to collect so many gold medals in a high-level international competition. I feel very good and excited. "

"I will undertake harder training in the future in a bid to achieve better results," said the Kiev Sports Institute student.

Russian Olga Belova was the one who brought Yerofeyeva's magic carpet ride to an end by taking a coveted gold in the final of clubs, scoring in 28.416, ahead of the golden girl in 27.700.

Belova, 18, sophomore at the Moscow Physical Education University, said: "I am very glad to claim the clubs title. Though I did not take a gold in other events, I had tried my best."

Yerofeyeva, sixth finisher of all-around at the Sydney Olympics, added: "I did not regret for taking a silver in clubs instead of sweeping all the individual golds because I did make a mistake in the performance."

Home favorite Zhong Ling won a silver in hoop in 27.816 and a bronze in ball final, despite a disappointing eighth finish for rope.
