EE-Media, China's star-generating empire behind the phenomenally popular Super Girl and Happy Boy singing competitions, celebrated its third anniversary with a five-hour, multi-act concert on Sunday.

2005 Super Girl champion Li Yuchun performs at a concert in Shanghai on Sunday, December 9, 2007.

More than 40 Super Girls and Happy Boys took to the stage one-by-one at the "marathon concert" in the 80,000-seat Shanghai Stadium.

Li Yuchun, the 2005 Super Girl champion, He Jie, the fourth place finisher of the same year, and Chen Chusheng, the newest Happy Boy winner, were among the performers.

EE-Media, funded by Hunan Satellite Television, was established in May 2004. Later that year, it launched the annual Super Girl contest, widely compared to the American Idol.

Super Girl became a trailblazing show in China, spawning a plethora of similar shows that have provided a stage for star-wannabes.

Many finalists have released albums and achieved varying levels of fame.

This year, EE-Media and Hunan Satellite Television replaced the Super Girl competition with a new brand, Happy Boy, which accepted only male applicants.
