The Bangladeshi government will distribute energy saving Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) bulb to the households in 27 districts simultaneously on June 19.

The Bangladeshi Prime Minister's Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury disclosed it on Wednesday at a press briefing at the Ministry of Power and Energy, website of leading English newspaper The Daily Star reported.

The bulb will be distributed free of cost, said Tawfiq-e-Elahi.

People need to submit the existing used normal bulbs and latest paid electric bill to get the CFL bulb, ministry sources said.

The government will distribute the energy-saving lights for free aiming to replace the incandescent bulbs.

The Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier on April 6 announced that the government has taken move to supply free 10 million fluorescent bulbs among people in 2010 and some 17.5 million bulbs in the next year in a bid to improve nagging power situation in the country.

She said it would help to save some 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

Currently, the South Asian country has reportedly a generation capacity of maximum 4,000 MW of power against a demand for 6,000 MW each day.
