One more rare white elephant has emerged in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State on Sept. 23, the official daily New Light of Myanmar reported Saturday.

The 18-years-old white elephant, which is 2.16 meters tall and its grith is 3.14 meters, was captured by the groups of Forest Department, the report said.

On June 29, the 38-year old female white elephant, over 2 meters tall and 3.3 meters in circumference was caught in Myanmar' s western Rakhine state and then it was accommodated in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw.

Since 2001, five white elephants have been founded in Myanmar, according to the official figures.

According to Myanmar historical records, there was a belief that "white elephant was sign of justice and power, the nation which possessed the white elephant would be free from danger and the citizens would lead a peaceful life."

Today's official newspaper said that "People are holding discussions cheerfully that the auspicious occasion coincides with the democratic transition of the nation and it is a good sign for the success of general elections and for the people to enjoy peace and stability and prosperity in the time of existing government."

The prior 8-year-old white elephant, was captured in October 2001 in a village tract in Rathedaung township in the state. The elephant has a height of about 1.8 meters with pearl eye, yellowish eyebrow, reddish eyelids and the back hanging down like the bough of a banana tree.

Myanmar people regard the emergence of white elephant as an auspicious sign of peace and prosperity.
