With floods in Queensland which has killed 14 people and affected more than 20,000 homes and businesses, South Australians on Thursday are also undergoing minor flooding in the northeast of the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology has earlier issued a severe weather warning for people in the northeast pastoral, Riverland and Flinders districts for Thursday.

Minor flooding in South Australia's Riverland has prompted emergency call outs across the region and forced the Berri police station to close.

According to ABC News, police evacuated a section of the building, because of fears the roof of the front foyer may collapse under the weight of the rain. The police station is expected to remain closed until Friday.

Also, the State Emergency Service (SES) said roadside drains have overflowed and water has flooded homes, while emergency crews attended 30 incidents at Paringa, Renmark and Berri on Thursday morning.

The SES regional commander, Scott Turner, said while the flooding is comparatively minor, locals should prepare for more rain.

Senior forecaster Vince Rowlands said the downpour is expected to increase on Thursday afternoon with up to 100 millimeters of rain forecast in some areas.

"The focus is certainly around that eastern border area but we are expecting the rainfall to pick up as the day progresses, so we 'll certainly be keeping an eye out for what's happening in the east and updating any warnings as necessary," he told ABC News on Thursday.

The bureau said the rain will move south-eastwards on Thursday and should clear by Friday morning.
