Farms in Australia are being wiped out, as floods on Sunday continue to make its way further into the north-west corner of state Victoria.

The waters are causing major flooding in the Murray River, Australia's longest river, and in coming days will threaten townships downstream of Swan Hill towards Mildura, more than 200 km away.

Earlier, State Emergency Services (SES) warned people between Kerang and Swan Hill could be isolated for days as floodwaters move through.

Evacuation warnings are in place for Pental Island, just south of Swan Hill, and several other communities, including Milnes Bridge, Kerang East, Meade and Pyramid Creek.

According to ABC News, landholders are trying to save what they can on their farms by moving livestock and machinery to higher ground.

Even though when the flood crisis is over, a huge reconstruction task awaits, with severe damage to towns and vital infrastructure and businesses and the farming sector suffering losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

More than 70 towns in Victoria were affected by floods this week, including 4300 people and 1700 properties.
