Fire on a leaked petrochemical device in northeastern coastal city of Dalian in Liaoning Province had been put out, company sources said Saturday evening.

No one died or was injured in the accident, which the company said had not caused pollution to the sea or the air.

An onsite monitoring showed that concentrations of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in the surrounding air were below the national standard of pollution.

In the meantime, all water used to quench the fire was guided into an emergency pond and no such water was discharged into the sea.

The fire was triggered off by leak in a distillation device at the Dalian Petrochemical Company of PetroChina, a leading onshore oil producer of the nation, at around 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

By 8 p.m., the fire was "totally put out", the company said in a statement.

Local environment authorities are keeping an eye on the pollutants of the fire and a further investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
